Liturgical Assistant Training Day

Christ Church, Childers, Corner Macrossan & Mcilwraith Streets, Childers

This training day for Liturgical Assistants (LAs) in the Burnett / Sunshine Coast area will cover topics including the LA Handbook, and the role of LAs, along with practical skills including administering the chalice, movement in the church and sanctuary, reading scripture and leading prayer.

Cost: $20 (includes morning tea and lunch)

Program

8.30 am – Eucharist (followed by tea and coffee)

9.15 am – Introduction (Alan Gallimore)

  • Why have Liturgical Assistants?
  • The LA role and its limits
  • The LA Handbook

10.00 am – Theology of Anglican Worship (Bishop Jonathan Holland)

  • Prayer Book
  • Structure of Eucharist

10.45 am – Morning tea

10.00 am – Skills and Practice (Alan Gallimore and Stephen Harrison)

  • Administering the Chalice
  • Movement in the Church and Sanctuary
  • Dealing with Accidents or Problems

11.45 am – Reading Scripture / Preparing and Leading Intercessions (Stephen Harrison)

12.30 pm – Lunch

1 pm – Leading Morning and Evening Prayer (Keith Dean-Jones)

1.45 pm – Questions

2 pm – Finish

  • Notebook and pen
  • Your LA Handbook. Handbooks can be purchased from the Cathedral Shop or at the training day for $5 each. The LA Handbook is also available online.
